Open Studio Time Sessions – Blacksmithing
Wednesdays 7-9pm (5 students max)
Beginning on February 6th, the Forge will starting Wednesday evening ‘open studio time’ sessions again. The sessions last for 2 hours and are open for farm volunteers and local people who either wish to watch us at work or who wish to try the craft for themselves. Up to five people may actively participate at a time during each session. Everyone is welcome to come along and watch, although we advise dressing according to the weather as observers cannot enter the studio space when people are working for health and safety reasons. Please email Ian after 12 noon each Monday for availability as active participation is on a first come first served basis. The first five applicants will be notified by email no later than Tuesday evening.
Introduction to Traditional Metalworking Techniques
Wednesdays 9-10pm, £10pp (5 students max)
These classes are aimed at novices to the craft and will cover the basics of traditional metal working from essential health and safety practices to the fundamental processes of forging steel. Please email Ian after 12 noon each Monday to register. The first five applicants will be notified by email no later than Tuesday evening.
Beginners Pottery
Wednesdays 6-8pm, July 24 – September 25, £245 (£160 concessions) – includes all tools, materials and firing (4 students max)
Ideal for beginners as a practical introduction to the possibilities of hand built ceramics. Exploring the creative potential of clay in a small class you will be led with a project which enables you to gain practical experience of throwing, slab building, coiling, slip decoration and glazing. You will finish the course with at least one finished piece of work. Aprons are provided but don’t wear your best shoes! Continue here for booking.
One to One Tuition – Pottery
Tuesday (6-8pm), Sunday (10-12midday), £30 (£20 concessions) per hour – includes all tools, materials and firing
Friendly one to one tuition ideal for learning how to throw on the pottery wheel, hand building, a range of decorating techniques and ideal for realizing a project of your own with expert help. These sessions can be tailored to you with times and dates to suit including weekdays. Please follow this link to book.
Weekend Taster Sessions – Pottery
Saturday (1-3pm), Sunday (1-3pm), £25 (£17 concessions) Adults, £15 Children (2-4 students max)
Ideal for couples, families, friends or children’s parties. A chance for all to have a play, learn more about clay, and gain practical experience of working with clay. Anything made will be dried, fired and glazed for you to collect at a later date. To book click here.
