School visits

Would you like to bring your class to Stepney City Farm?

Come and get outside, meet the animals and have fun whilst meeting your national curriculum targets. We offer high quality learning experiences and have been awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.

To book any workshop or tour, please email siobhan@stepneycityfarm.org with your choice of tour/workshop and your preferred dates.

Self-led visits

We offer self-led visits for classes visiting the farm.

Self-led visits are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. We offer two slots: morning (10.30 – 12.00) or afternoon (13.00- 14.30.)

All groups must book in advance. We are a small site and can accommodate up to 30 children at a time.

Self-led visits are free for all schools, though we always appreciate donations.

You can also book our lunch room from 12.00 – 13.00 for £12. Please indicate this when booking and we will invoice you after your visit.

Guided tours

A guided tour is a great chance to find out more about the farm. We will show you around, introduce the students to the plants and animals, answer questions and run an animal handling session.

We run guided tours on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We offer two slots: morning (10.30 – 12.00) or afternoon (13.00 – 14.30) to tour the farm with our Schools Officer.

All groups must book in advance. We are a small site and can accommodate up to 30 children at a time.

We suggest a donation of £40 for each guided tour, though no school will be turned away due to lack of funds. You can bring cash with you on the day or we can invoice after your visit.

Important information about your visit

Please read our information pack before booking your visit. This contains important information about how to book, health and safety information, and a risk assessment for schools.

Accessibility
The farm is an inclusive space; most spaces are wheelchair accessible and we are actively working to increase participation for people of all different abilities and needs. We can adapt all workshops if necessary to support all members of your classes to experience the opportunities at the farm.
Please contact us in advance if you have any special requirements.

Health & Safety
We have a comprehensive Health & Safety policy at the farm and a standard Risk Assessment for Schools and Youth Groups which is included in the teachers’ pack.

A member of staff will also give a brief introduction to Health and Safety when the group arrives for guided tours or workshops.

Monitoring
At the end of your visit or workshop we will ask the teacher to fill out a monitoring form in order to record and evaluate the visit. This is essential to enable us to meet our funding requirements. If you have any further feedback, please do let us know.

Facilities and Resources

Toilets and Handwashing Facilities
There are toilets on site located in our Rural Arts Centre. We have male, female and disabled toilets. All of these have handwashing facilities available for groups to use before they leave, eat, drink or otherwise put their hands near their mouths.
There are additional hand-washing stations around the farm and at the exit.

Farm Cafe and Shop
We have a farm shop which sells our produce seasonally, including fruit and vegetables as well as eggs from our chickens, ducks and geese. The cafe is also open while schools are visiting.

Designated Eating Areas
If you would like to have lunch on the farm then please email us beforehand to let us know.

If the weather is fine, there is space for schools to eat outside. You can also book our classroom as a lunch space for £12 per hour (from 12.00 – 13.00.) Please email us once you have made your tour or workshop booking to let us know.
