History of the Farm

Residents in London’s East End got together in 1979 to set up a community farm on a derelict site bombed in World War II.

The charity – Stepney City Farm – made up of local residents work tirelessly volunteering their time, effort and creativity. The volunteers and staff who are from all ages and backgrounds have delivered an impressive increase in the activities and visitors leading to an increase in the paid staff who have in turn been able to generate change through their leadership and skill. As a result of their efforts and much needed funding the farm is able to stay open for free six days a week offering a valued community hub for both the visitors and the volunteers. Their collaborations with local businesses have also brought about very interesting green solutions such as the feeding of food waste to the pigs.

Farmer’s Market

Stepney City Farm’s Farmers’ Market offers a range of vegetables, fruit, bread, cheeses, meat, cakes, eggs, preserves, oils and juices. Stallholders offer freshly-cooked meals and snacks using local produce . best coffee at our cafe.

Family With Style said ’’I love the way the farm is becoming a community hub, with workshops, events and now the market which was clearly a big hit with local families’

A first time visitor to the Farmers’ Market, Steve Allen, said– “Fab! Lots to tempt – my buys, a huge sourdough loaf, a good chunk of top Stilton’
